Barcelona secured a narrow but crucial victory over Getafe at the Camp Nou, thanks to an early goal from Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker found the back of the net in the first half, and despite Getafe’s solid defense and multiple attempts, the Blaugrana held on to their 1-0 lead to claim all three points.
Head coach Hansi Flick praised his team’s determination and the support from the fans:
"The team has fought for 95 minutes. I'm proud of the team; they've given everything. I'm also proud of the fans who have realized that we needed them."
Flick highlighted the importance of learning from such challenging matches:
"I think these types of games help us more than the ones we win by a huge margin. We're going to analyze it and see what we need to improve. Sometimes it's more useful to analyze a game in which you've suffered more."
The German coach also acknowledged the unique abilities of Lamine Yamal, who continues to impress with his performances:
"Lamine Yamal does very unique things, and the stadium loves it. You can feel it. We have to protect him, but also the rest of the players. That's what the referees are for."
Regarding the team's overall performance against a tough and compact Getafe defense, Flick noted:
"Getafe have a solid, compact defense, which makes it tough. At times, we lacked the needed speed in attack, but in the end, we managed to score and secure the three points."
When asked about the potential signing of Wojciech Szczęsny, Flick remained focused on his current squad:
"Szczęsny? I'm only talking about the players I have. Iñaki is our number one goalkeeper, and we're very happy with him. That's all I can say."
He also commended Lewandowski’s consistent contribution:
"Lewandowski is the best striker of the last 10 years. His job is to play in front of goal and score goals, and he is doing that. He also has players around him who can assist him."
Reflecting on the match and the win, Flick added:
"We deserved the win. It's true that Getafe had their chances, but Eric and Raphinha could have scored too. We won 1-0 and that's fine."
Flick expressed satisfaction with the quality and decision-making of his young players and addressed Jules Koundé’s role in the team:
"Seeing the enormous quality of all the young players with the ball, the decision-making, the final passes... I'm very happy. We can't complain, but we can still improve."
"Koundé plays in the same position for his national team, and it's incredible because he's 100%, at full capacity, and I'm not thinking of a change."
Despite a challenging match, Barcelona managed to come out on top and maintain their momentum in the league. The Blaugrana will now turn their attention to their next challenge against Osasuna on September 28, 2024. It promises to be another exciting encounter as the Catalans aim to extend their winning streak and keep their place at the top of the table. Stay tuned for more updates and insights on Culers Hub!
