Gündogan acknowledged the disappointment of not securing silverware but offered a different perspective on the team’s overall performance. “Maybe people look at last season and think we didn’t win anything, and that’s true, but if we look at our performance, by the end of the season we had 85 points—just three less than the previous year when we won La Liga,” he explained. The former Manchester City star also pointed to the fierce competition in La Liga, particularly from their arch-rivals, Real Madrid. “We were up against a very tough Real Madrid,” Gündogan noted, acknowledging the high level of football in Spain and the difficulty of overcoming such a formidable opponent.
